Evoking French military grandeur and the art of the parade, *Marine et Cavalerie* is one of the most iconic designs by Philippe Ledoux, the undisputed master of historical scenes at Hermès. Created in 1966, this square scarf belongs to the designer’s most sought-after period, characterised by exceptional documentary precision and a theatrical composition of great elegance.
Your copy is distinguished by the absence of a care label, characteristic of the first editions prior to 1971, and by its extremely rare mint condition, preserved with impeccable colour vibrancy and silk tension. The dense and even hand-rolled hem confirms its Hermès production from a golden age.
In the centre, the Royal Navy’s tall ships unfurl in a sweeping, luminous composition, whilst the Cavalry parades in the foreground in a harmony of greens, gold and burgundy. The border, richly illustrated with military motifs — cannons, flags, drums, sabres — frames the scene like a ceremonial painting.
A sought-after collector’s item, particularly in this condition, ‘Marine et Cavalerie’ embodies the golden age of the Hermès carré: a dense silk, a precise print, and the signature of an artist whose works are among the most highly valued by the house.
An historic carré, perfectly preserved, ideal for the discerning collector or for a high-end decorative display.
